In October 2023, the Bass Strait Region was declared suitable for offshore renewable energy. While the Tasmanian Government have not yet specified targets for offshore wind, its commitment to achieving a 200 percent renewable energy target by 2040 indicates a strong inclination towards embracing new renewable technologies. Notably, their Hydrogen Action Plan sets ambitious aims to establish a significant hydrogen export industry commencing in 2030. This industry’s growth potential surpasses the capacity of onshore renewables alone, thereby facilitating the emergence of offshore wind developments.
