Offshore Wind Energy Summary
Queensland has not been identified by the Australian government as priority region for offshore wind development. However, strong average wind speeds between 9-10 metres per second have been identified off the cost of North Queensland, and many areas suitable for fixed bottom applications have been identified along the coast.
These strong offshore resources, as well as the Queensland Government’s target of reaching 22 GW of new renewable capacity by 2035, have attracted offshore wind developers to the state.
