Auction Date Announced for Offshore Wind off Gippsland

This week marked a big step forward for offshore wind in Australia.
After nearly a year’s delay, the Victorian Government has confirmed Australia’s first offshore wind auction will open in August, kicking off a long-awaited chapter for the sector.
A few highlights we’re excited about
- 2 GW offshore wind auction to open via a Request for Tender in August
- Victoria reaffirming its leadership with targets of 2 GW by 2032 and 9 GW by 2040
- Strong signal of long-term policy commitment as brown coal exits the grid
- Offshore wind recognised for its critical role in meeting evening peak demand
- The sector expected to deliver 6,000+ jobs and billions in investment, particularly for Gippsland
While challenges remain around infrastructure, market design and cost, this announcement provides much-needed momentum and certainty for developers, investors and the broader supply chain.
At Energise, we see offshore wind as a cornerstone of Australia’s next energy phase — supporting reliability, regional jobs, and a resilient, decarbonised grid.
